Hartt School Offers Opera Subscribers Chance To Redeem Tix

The Hartt School, renowned performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford, joins The Bushnell, Hartford Stage, the Hartford Symphony, and TheaterWorks in offering Connecticut Opera Subscribers the opportunity to redeem their tickets to cancelled Connecticut Opera performances for tickets to performances at The Hartt School.

Subscribers simply present their Connecticut Opera tickets at the University of Hartford Box Office to exchange them (even exchange, one-for-one) for tickets to ANY music, dance, or theatre performance at The Hartt School through May, 2009. The Hartt School offers more than 400 concerts, recitals, plays, master classes, dance performances, and musical theatre productions a year, including fully staged operas with orchestra, performances of opera scenes, and vocal recitals. A summary of some of this spring's major events follows, and more information about all of Hartt's diverse offerings, many of which are free, is available at Hartt's web site, www.hartford.edu/hartt.

The Graduate Opera Project presents CLEOPATRA & COMPANY on Friday, March 27, at 7:30 PM in the Kent McCray Theater at the Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway (at the corner of Albany Avenue), Hartford. There is no admission charge for this performance, which features five of Hartt's graduate sopranos each singing one of the five aria scenes from Handel's Giulio Cesare, and also features solo scenes from operas by Puccini, Gounod, Bizet, Donizetti, and Stravinsky. The program will be accompanied by Stephen Scarlato and is approximately 75 minutes in length.

Music theatre performances this semester include The Who's Tommy, through March 13, and 110 in the Shade and The Fantastics, in repertory April 23-26. The plays Learned Ladies of Park Avenue and Idiot Box hit the stage in repertory April 8 through 12, with the zany Big Love playing May 7 through 10.

Our Senior Dance Concert will premier six new works by student and professional choreographers on March 12 and 13. Hartt Dances, May 1 through 3, will include Marius Petipa's Second Act of Giselle, Flames of Paris, and Ink Passion.

The exciting Miami String Quartet Student Competition Concert takes place on March 26. On Monday, April 13, Hartt presents AN EVENING WITH Hank Jones, jazz piano legend and 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at the Grammys. On April 24, the Hartt Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band take the stage. On Thursday, April 24, The Hartt Symphony Orchestra, Hartt Choruses, and New Haven Chorale join together at the Belding Theater at The Bushnell to present GRANT US PEACE: Dramatic readings will link musical metaphors for life's potential, the tragedy of war, and the universal longing for peace.
