Florence Henderson Comes to Edgerton Center, 5/4

The Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University continues its American Legend Series with A Conversation with Florence Henderson Live and Onstage of the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on the Campus of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut on Saturday, May 4 (2013) at 8pm.

Miss Henderson, a multi-talented actress, talk show host, recording artist, author, Broadway veteran and philanthropist, will take the stage to candidly reminisce about her stage, film and television careers in an 'Actors Studio-style' presentation hosted by Jerry Goehring, Executive Director of The Edgerton Center. The evening will include selected clips from her film, television and stage productions and she will also participate in a Q&A with members of the audience.

From the boards of the Broadway stage to television and the silver screen, Florence Henderson has conquered just about every aspect of entertainment. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and quickly started a successful theatre career. Rodgers & Hammerstein personally selected her for the lead in the national tour of Oklahom and she appeared on Broadway in Noel Coward's The Girl Who Came to Supper.

In 1970 she made her first feature film, "The Song of Norway" and she was a regular guest on variety and talk shows with Ed Sullivan, Merv Griffin, Steve Allen and Dean Martin.
The role for which Henderson is most famous came in 1969. For five years, she played the quintessential sitcom-mom Carol Brady on television's "The Brady Bunch." The show was a hit, and became even more popular in re-runs. It is now considered a cultural icon of the 70s, spawning two feature "spoof" films in the mid-90s.

Florence Henderson was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute's first permanent Entertainment History Exhibit as one of the greatest pop cultural icons of all-time as well as receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Henderson's career is as active today as when she first appeared as the "Today Girl" on NBC's "Today Show" and the first woman to host "The Tonight Show." No stranger to television today, she was one of twelve celebrities competing on the eleventh season of "Dancing with the Stars." She also guest starred on numerous sitcoms, including "Roseanne," as a recurring character on "Dave's World" and the critically acclaimed "Ladies of the House," a movie of the week for Hallmark. In addition, Henderson worked as a producer on the Nashville Network's Country Kitchen for nine seasons.

The American Legends Series - A Conversation with Florence Henderson is scheduled on Saturday, May 4 at 8pm. The Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, located on the campus of Sacred Heart University at 5151 Park Avenue in Fairfield, Connecticut, is just minutes from exit 47 of the Merritt Parkway.
