The Kenyon Institute, a series of summer writing workshops and intellectual experiences for adults, offered on one of the world's most beautiful college campuses, announced today its lineup of programs for the 2017 season. During the months of June and July 2017, top industry professionals - including award-winning playwrights, recognized authors and journalists, published scientists, and respected scholars - will meet on the campus of Kenyon College to instruct and work with the adult students enrolled in each of the four Kenyon Institute programs. Registration began October 15, 2016.

June 2017 will mark the fifth season of the Kenyon Institute, which is designed for adults seeking to become better writers in their professionAl Fields and who are interested in life-long learning through literature.

The summer 2017 programs being offered by The Kenyon Institute are:

Kenyon Institute in Biomedical and Scientific Writing (June 7 - June 9)

The goal of this three-day workshop in effective scientific writing is for researchers and clincians to leave campus with a publishable research paper, a fundable grant proposal, and with noticeable improvement in their compelling technical writing abilities. The workshop is designed for physicians, graduate and medical students, postdoctoral biomedical researchers, and science writers.

Kenyon Playwrights Conference (June 11 - June 17)

Designed for both aspiring and working playwrights, the Kenyon Playwrights Conference includes morning-long seminars led by literary managers and faculty, time for students to write in the afternoon, evening readings of students' work, and the opportunity to watch three commissioned plays take shape with the creative teams from powerhouse international companies. This year, the Kenyon Institute has partnered with three renowned companies for the Conference: Seattle's ACT, which has premiered or developed 22 new plays since 2006; the Roundabout Theatre Company, the nation's most influential nonprofit theater company and one of New York City's leading cultural institutions; and The Old Vic, one of London's most storied theaters and the original home of the National Theatre.

Kenyon Summer Seminar (June 18 - June 24)

Focused on 'Great Books, Great Eras', the 2017 Kenyon Summer Seminar invites participants to enjoy a week-long education vacation during which brilliant professors and best-selling authors will teach from their recently published books. Small seminars are offered for three hours in morning and afternoon sessions, and free time can be filled with daily films and lectures, hiking and recreational opportunities, wine tastings, and more.

Beyond Walls: Spiritual Writing at Kenyon (July 9 - July 15)

Beyond Walls is a one-week, writing-intensive program aimed at faith leaders who recognize the important role writing plays in their work. The multi-faith program is founded on the belief that participants can learn from writing traditions of all faiths, and instructs participants in new modes of writing that can be used to reach out to seekers beyond their congregational and denominational walls. Writing and outreach methods explored include op-eds and blog posts, as well as social media. A daily social media workshop is offered for those interested in learning more about using social media in ministry work. Seminars and lectures will be led by some of today's most prolific and respected spiritual writers and journalists.

Launched in 2013, the Kenyon Institute reinforces Kenyon's historic strengths in writing and the liberal arts experience. Its writing programs bring top industry professionals and Kenyon College faculty together to offer an intensive writing experience that helps writers respond to the communication demands of their fields.
