The Academy for the Performing Arts Presents: 2024 Junior Play Festival

The Academy for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce its 2024 Junior Play Festival, a three-day theatrical showcase featuring the talents of the entire Junior class. This year's festival will take place from March 19 through March 21 at the Black Box Theatre, located within the Chagrin Falls Performing Arts Center at 400 East Washington Street, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022. Each performance will commence at 7:00 PM.

This year's festival includes three shows presented in repertory:

• POWERLINE: THE STORY OF ME, MARIO & YOUR MOM. Written by Don Zolidis, this comedic journey transports us back to 1989, where the ultimate job for high school kids was to be a Game Counselor on the Power Line. Follow young Gilbert and his quirky coworkers as they navigate the challenges of offering hope to the video game-stuck, lovelorn, and the outright bizarre. Directed by Dan Hendrock, the show performs on March 19 and March 21.

• STAGE FRIGHTS - A DREADFUL COMEDY: Written by Ryan Santa, Amy Shwabauer, Cam Godfrey, & Gregory James, this show will leave no room for doubt about the existence of ghosts in the Blackbox Theatre. A comedic exploration of the haunted history of the theatre's ghosts and the trials of managing house managing a haunted theatre. Directed by Treva Offutt, catch this unique performance on March 19 and March 20.

• CHAMBER MUSIC by Arthur Kopit: An intriguing assembly featuring characters like The Woman in the Safari Outfit, Joan of Arc, and Amelia Earhart, who debate a plan to attack the men's ward before they become their cannibalistic victims. This darkly comedic narrative is directed by Derdriu Ring and will be performed on March 20 and March 21.

Each night the festival will also feature a music video set to Led Zeppelin's iconic "Stairway to Heaven," interpreted VERY literally by the Academy's Tech/Design students under the direction of Ben Needham.
