Cleveland Orchestra Calls for Volunteers for 2017-18 Season at Severance Hall
Severance Hall, home of The Cleveland Orchestra, is seeking volunteer ushers and tour guides for the upcoming season, which runs September 2017 to June 2018. Open interview sessions for new volunteers will be held at Severance Hall from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 22, and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27.
Those interested in volunteering are invited to come to Severance Hall's Smith Lobby, located on the ground floor by the Ticket Office, at any time during these hours to complete an application, learn about the program, and speak with House Management staff.
We are looking for individuals who are energetic, enthusiastic, and eager to provide our audiences with the highest level of customer service. The season includes performances by The Cleveland Orchestra (evening, matinee, education, family, and holiday events) and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorus, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, and the Cleveland Women's Orchestra, as well as other musical and non-musical events. Volunteers have the opportunity to hear great music in a beautiful venue, enjoy the company of other music lovers, and contribute their talents and time to a premier arts organization.
Several opportunities are available:
Tour guides conduct public and private tours and provide historical information and architectural details about Severance Hall as well as historical information about The Cleveland Orchestra.
Ushers greet patrons, scan tickets, and guide patrons to their seats; direct them to Hall amenities; address questions; and provide excellent customer service to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for each guest.
Junior Volunteer Corps (JVC) members are students age 14 years and older who assist adult volunteers in ushering at concerts and special events (mostly daytime performances on weekends). An orientation and training program and adult usher mentors prepare students to serve as ushers. JVC volunteers can earn credit toward completing community service requirements at schools and other organizations.
Severance Hall volunteers are asked to commit for the entire season, from September through June, and are required to attend a training and orientation session prior to the beginning of the season (details to be announced).
