The Art House Convergence, an international consortium of independent, community-based, mission-driven movie theaters, is pleased to announce the first Art House Theater Day, taking place on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

More than 160 theaters, including the Wilmette Theatre (1122 Central Ave., Wilmette) will participate in this nationwide celebration of the cultural and community growth that art house theaters promote. Because we have so much to celebrate the Wilmette Theatre is hosting special events all weekend long starting Friday, Sept .23rd through Sunday, Sept 25th.

National Art House Theater Day celebrates the art house theater and the cultural role it plays in a community. It is a day to recognize the year-round contributions of film and filmmakers, patrons, projectionists, and staff, and the brick and mortar theaters that are passionately dedicated to providing access to the best cinematic experience.

The Wilmette Theatre is one of the most unique art houses in Chicago. The Wilmette Theatre attracts visitors from distant suburbs, and even from out of state, due to its unique programming that can't be found elsewhere. The Theatre often screens movies that are not widely available in Chicago, hosts live events and is a venue for other nonprofits and for independent filmmakers to screen their work.

In addition to their regularly scheduled films, the Wilmette Theatre will feature the following special programs, events, and film discussions as part of Art House Theater Day.
