Cornelia Ave, Studio C, in Chicago. Tickets are $20; call 319-621-0024 to reserve tickets or purchase in person at the box office. Visit Three Brothers Theatre online at 3brostheatre.com.

Henley's wildly popular black comedy takes place in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where three estranged sisters reconnect after learning that the youngest, Babe, has been arrested for shooting her husband because she "just didn't like his looks." Through similarly comi-tragic and disturbing events, including the descent of their patriarch grandfather into a coma, the script mines the sisters' souls as they grow closer. This brilliant production uncovers not only the humor of sibling rivalry and of personal strife, but also the pathos of interpersonal connection and the stuffy atmosphere of a small Southern town. Recent University of Chicago theatre graduate Robert Eric Shoemaker directs a powerful young cast in an intimate and intellectual approach to this classic play. 3 Brothers' Crimes deconstructs the Southern "kitschen" and way of life- the darks are darkened; lightness and wholesomeness are fleshed out; and young talent comes to the fore.
