Three-Session Seminars to be taught in English and French. In anticipation of the Chicago premier of Scorched (October 6 - November 7, 2010), a play by Lebanese French Canadian dramatist Wajdi Mouawad, Silk Road Theatre Project together with Act One Studios are proud to offer two three-session seminars, one to be taught in English and the other in French. Led by professionals from Act One Studios, the seminars will provide in-depth explorations of Mouawad's riveting text, which was originally written in French and translated by Linda Gaboriau. SRTP will be producing the play in its English translation.

In Scorched, a brother and sister raised in Quebec must return to their mother's war-torn country to carry out her last wishes - finding the father and brother they never knew they had. Carried aloft by poetic language and evocative imagery, Scorched unfolds in a dreamlike atmosphere connecting the origins of one family in startling and unforgettable ways. Hailed as "one of the finest modernizations of Greek tragedy" by The Philadelphia Weekly, and as "the best piece of theatre (Canada) has produced this millennium" by The Globe and Mail, Scorched is an excellent piece for lovers of theatre and literature alike.

When: The seminars in English and French will be held in separate classrooms on September 13, 20, and 27, from 6:30pm to 9pm.

Where: Seminars will be held at SRTP's performance venue at Pierce Hall in The Historic Chicago Temple Building, 77 West Washington Street, Chicago.

TALIB
Written and Directed by Michael Najjar
Featuring: Adrienne Curry, Susaan Jamshidi, Vincent Mahler, Diana Simonzadeh, and Clayton Stamper.

Talib (Arabic for student) is set amid the aftermath of the Iraq War. Famous Iraqi actress Hannan Al-Najaf is invited by her friend Aida Al-Masri to stage her war drama at a major American university. When she discovers that an Iraq War veteran has been cast in her play, Hannan must confront her past and decide whether or not she can go on with the show. Talib explores the complicated dichotomies of war from the point of view of the soldiers and civilians and asks if, after so much loss on both sides, reconciliation is really possible.

Each staged reading will be followed by a Q & A session with playwright/director Michael Najjar, moderated by SRTP Artistic Director Jamil Khoury.
