Two holiday-themed programs and a radio drama are among the treats for audiences when the Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players return to City Winery Chicago to present the Fall Chamber Concert Series. With a wide variety of concerts, presented in the uniquely casual brunch setting of this West Loop winery and restaurant, this season's lineup promises a fun and entertaining series of classical music.

The opening program, Día de los Muertos, is a Day of the Dead themed journey through the music of Latin America. In honor of the traditional Mexican holiday and Halloween, the spirits will bring the audience on a journey through joy and mourning, through the underworld and heaven. The concert will include music such as Arturo Marquez's Danza de Mediodia (Noon Dance), Quintet No. 2 (Back in Time; In Heaven; Under the Earth; Far Away) by Uruguayan-American composer Miguel del Águila, works from Astor Piazzolla, and selections from Aires Tropicales by Paquito D'Rivera.

Crime Classics: The Picture Hanger and the Pirates unites the Chamber Players with Chicago Senior Radio Players to present two episodes of the classic radio drama "Crime Classics". Presented in the 1950s, "Crime Classics" dramatized true crime stories from history, while Academy Award-winning composer Bernard Herrmann, known for such famous films as Psycho, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Citizen Kane, Taxi Driver, Journey to the Center of the Earth and more, composed the score. The episodes presented on November 19 will be The Death of the Picture Hanger, the story of the downfall of outlaw Jesse James, and Coyle and Richardson - Why They Hung in the Spanking Breeze, a story about a pair of murderous pirates.

The Fall Season concludes in December with a fairytale and holiday season themed concert. The Chamber Players will transport audiences to another time and place through the sparkling beauty of Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp and Bax's Elegiac Trio, as well as the magic of the Cinderella story with Chopin's Variation on a Theme by Rossini, and a selection of Holiday Carols to celebrate the season.

Presented since 2014, the chamber concert series allows Chicago Philharmonic musicians to explore diverse classical music opportunities, as patrons enjoy a delicious food and beverages in the relaxed atmosphere of the West Loop winery. For the first time, Chicago Philharmonic is giving patrons the chance to purchase Chamber Concert subscriptions for all three Fall Series concerts, in addition to tickets for individual performances. All concerts begin at 12pm noon and patrons are encouraged to arrive early to purchase food and drinks.

ABOUT THE CHICAGO PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

The Chicago Philharmonic Society is a collaboration of over 200 of the highest-level classical musicians performing in the Chicago metropolitan area. Governed under a groundbreaking structure of musician leadership, the Society presents concerts at venues throughout the Chicago area that cover the full spectrum of classical music, from Bach to Britten and beyond. The Society's orchestra, known simply as the Chicago Philharmonic, has been called "one of the country's finest symphonic orchestras" (Chicago Tribune), and its unique chamber music ensembles, which perform as the Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players (cp2), draw from its vast pool of versatile musicians. The Society's outreach programs connect Chicago-area youth to classical music and provide performance opportunities for members of the community. Founded 26 years ago by principal musicians from the Lyric Opera Orchestra, the Chicago Philharmonic currently serves as the official orchestra of the Joffrey Ballet, continues its 21-year association with the Ravinia Festival, and presents symphonic concerts in Chicago's North Shore region and Harris Theater Chicago.
