York Symphony Orchestra To Be Featured On NPR's FROM THE TOP, 4/15

he York Symphony Orchestra will be featured in a national broadcast and live recording as they present NPR's From the Top with Host Christopher O'Riley, the preeminent showcase for young musicians on Saturday, April 15 at 4 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. From the Top features amazing performances and captivating personal stories of extraordinary young classical musicians from across the country. The Emmy Award-winning program's appearance with the York Symphony Orchestra is sponsored by Menchey Music Service and WITF-FM.

The concert in York will feature performances by outstanding young musicians and concerto performances alongside the York Symphony Orchestra, including 16-year-old pianist Baron Cao from State College, Pennsylvania; 16-year-old violinist Daniel Rafimayeri from New York, New York; 17-year-old cellist Zoe Lin from Palo Alto, California; and 19-year-old clarinetist Andrew Mazanko from Sovetsky, Russia, now attending Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan.

Professional violinist Ben E. Detrick, originally from Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania, will also be featured. Detrick, currently living in Vienna, Austria, is a 2002 alumnus of From the Top and a former member of the York Symphony Orchestra. His mother, Venona Detrick, is a longtime second violinist with the York Symphony Orchestra, and his father, Joe Detrick, is a longtime member of the bass section with the York Symphony Chorus.

"We are beyond thrilled to host this acclaimed show," said Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra. "Collaborating with NPR's From the Top gives national attention to the great work the York Symphony is doing as well as the Greater York community."

The York Symphony Orchestra will present NPR's From the Top with Host Christopher O'Riley on Saturday, April 15 at 4:00 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York.
