The York Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce that Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra, has signed a contract extension to continue his leadership of the Symphony for five more years. This exciting announcement comes as the local nonprofit also welcomes four new members to the York Symphony Orchestra board of directors - Dr. Vince Butera, Larry J. Miller, Carolyn Mosser and Michelle Shipley - all from York County.

Golan was appointed to the prestigious music director and conductor position of the York Symphony Orchestra in 2014 after a competitive search which garnered more than 100 candidates from around the world. Working with the York Symphony orchestra leadership, Golan has served a critical leadership role in guiding changes to programs, concert presentation and a new ticket pricing structure for the Symphony. As a result, Golan's inaugural season (2014-2015) was record-breaking, donor contributions have increased, and audiences have continued to grow leading to numerous sold-out performances throughout the 2015-2016 season.

"Lawrence Golan is an extremely talented, internationally acclaimed conductor who has introduced the York Symphony to new audiences throughout the region," said William R. Hartman, president of the Symphony's board of directors. "We're thrilled to continue our partnership with Lawrence."

In addition to the announcement of Golan's contract extension, four local York community members have also committed to serve as leaders on the York Symphony Orchestra's board of directors - Dr. Vince Butera, Larry J. Miller, Carolyn Mosser and Michelle Shipley. The York Symphony Orchestra board of directors is responsible for continually guiding the organization towards achieving its mission of providing live orchestral music to the people of South Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland as well as continuing the Symphony's dedication to providing educational programs for both adults and children. The board is comprised of 14 members, now including Butera, Miller, Mosser and Shipley.

"Our board members are extremely dedicated to both the Symphony and this community," adds Hartman. "To have the announcement of Lawrence and four new board members taking place at the same time is a testament to the growing strength and popularity of the York Symphony Orchestra."

The following new board members have been elected to their first term:

Dr. Vincent Butera is a retired orthopedic surgeon who for many years was a partner with OSS Health and predecessor organizations and enjoyed a long affiliation with WellSpan Health and York Hospital. He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine.

Larry J. Miller is the executive chairman of PeoplesBank, A Codorus Valley Company. He served as the Chairman of United Way of York County, York County Economic Development Corporation, YorkCounts and in other leadership capacities for various nonprofit organizations. Miller attended York College of Pennsylvania and is a graduate from The Pennsylvania School of Banking at Bucknell University.

Carolyn Mosser is a former emergency department nurse. She is a commissioned church planter at Grace Presbyterian Church of York. She has also participated in the birth of a local chapter of Community Bible Study, now a worldwide organization that coordinates and runs Bible studies in local communities, and was the first director of York's CBS Children's Program.

Michelle Shipley is a former employee from the medical records department at Rehab Hospital. She had previously served for eight years on the board of Performing Arts for Children, a project of the Junior League to bring live professional theater to York. A native of York, she is a graduate of York College and Dover High School.
