Redhouse Arts Center Announces its 2016-17 Season

The Red House Arts Center is pleased to announce its 2016-17 Main Stage Season which features a high-flying mix of musicals, plays and performances. This will be a season of exciting transition for the organization as it prepares to move operations from its current home to the new Redhouse @ City Center. There is so much excitement in store for the Syracuse Community! Samara Hannah, Acting Executive Director commented "We are thrilled to present an array of productions, from Tony Award-winning classics, to those packed with drama and comedy to tickle your funny bone. One thing is for sure, this season is not to be missed!"

Redhouse will bring in many young rising stars while also welcoming back audience favorites. Returning to the stage will be Laura Austin (Broadway Bound, Next to Normal), John Bixler (Broadway Bound, MacBeth), Ben Wells (The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee) and Joan Anderson (The Color Purple, Dreamgirls) Aubrey Panek (Ragtime), Patrick Burns (From Foster Care to Fabulous, Ragtime), Briana Maia (Dreamgirls, Ragtime) and Temar Underwood (Dreamgirls) to name a few. Redhouse will kick it's season off with the hilarious and entertaining Avenue Q which runs September 15th through October 1st. Everyone's favorite R-rated, puppet-filled comedy is moving into Redhouse! This laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life. Winner of Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book at the 2003 Tony Awards, Avenue Q is a laugh riot packed with flesh, felt, and plenty of heart!

Following Avenue Q, Redhouse will produce family favorite, Disney's Beauty and the Beast which will run from December 1st through December 17th. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, Disney's Beauty and the Beast enjoyed a 13-year run on Broadway, has played to over 35 million people worldwide in 13 countries, and will now be inventively brought to life on the Red House stage! Disney's Beauty and the Beast features all of the beloved songs from the film by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman along with new songs with lyrics by Tim Rice. Join Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Chip, and "Be Our Guest" for this magical production! Redhouse is thrilled to partner with Hillside Family of Agencies for this production.

Redhouse kicks of the new year in January with Make Me A Song: The Music of William Finn, by Ron Ruggerio, which is a celebration showcasing the songs of one of the most acclaimed composer-lyricists currently writing for the theatre. This poignant and compelling revue effortlessly weaves together songs from William Finn's rich and touching songbook including Tony Award-winning Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. A testament to the exceptional career of this beloved songwriter, Make Me A Song brims with spectacular highlights sure to delight longtime fans and newcomers alike. Make Me A Song : The Music of William Finn opens January 19th and runs through the 28th.

February heats up as Redhouse welcomes back award-winning singer and actress Marissa Mulder February 9, 10, 11, 2017. This Syracuse native continues to be one of the hottest artists on the NYC cabaret scene. She will be performing Forever My Friend :The Songs of Ray Lamontagne. This American Singer Songwriter (Ray Lamontagne) has been compared to the likes of Otis Redding, Van Morrison and The Band. Ray's music is soulful and haunting. His personal life is mysterious, he is painfully shy and rarely gives interviews, yet he has become one of the most successful songwriters of today. Backed by her pianist Jasper Grant and cellist Eric Wong, Mulder interprets some of LaMontagne's most beloved songs including

"Jolene", "Trouble" and "Til The Sun Turns Black."

From March 9-18, 2017 Redhouse will produce Six Degrees of Separation, by award-winning playwright John Guare. Diamonds and denim clash in this fast-paced and wildly clever play inspired by a real-life story. Six Degrees of Separation follows the antics of Paul, a charming young con artist who convinces a wealthy Manhattan couple he is the son of celebrated actor Sidney Poitier. When the couple charitably invites Paul to spend the night in their swanky digs, Paul's con spins frantically (and hilariously) out of control as house guests and emotions run haywire. Winner of the New York Critics Circle Drama Award and the Olivier Award for Best Play, Six Degrees of Separation is a Redhouse production you certainly don't want to miss!

Get your rotten tomatoes ready and warm up your throwing arm! May 4th - May 20, 2017 Redhouse produces The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) and The Bomb-itty of Errors as part of it's 2016-17 REP Series.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) lets you experience all 37 plays in 97 minutes! Three madcap actors weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare's comedies, histories, and tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter. An irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard's plays,"The Today Show" says, "If you like Shakespeare, you'll like this show. If you hate Shakespeare, you'll love this show!

The Bomb-ity Of Errors is a high-paced, energetic, musical "add-rap-tation" of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors. Elizabethan times get pumped up with live hip-hop flavor in this hilarious, award-winning show. First performed Off-Broadway in New York, nominated for Drama Desk Award, Outer Critic's Circle Award, and winner of the Jefferson Award and Best Show at the HBO Comedy Festival, The Bomb-itty of Errors has played in Chicago, Philadelphia, London, Amsterdam, and around the globe. Actors sing, rap and rhyme catchy and laugh-out-loud songs. Join us and get swept up in the electric fun of Bomb-itty!
