Welcome to BWW TV World's new daily ON THIS DAY series celebrating series premieres and special events that took place on this day in television history!

On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1985, NBC sportscaster Ahmad Rashad popped the question to his girlfriend, COSBY SHOW star Phylicia Ayers-Allen, on national TV. The off-the-cuff proposal occured during the pregame portion of the "NFL '85" broadcast of the New York Jets at Detroit Lions game.

From the field at the Silverdome, Rashad asked a surprised Bob Costas back in the booth to have someone find Ayers-Allen, who was at the Macy's Thanksgving Day Parade in New York, and relay the message to her. Luckily for the former NFL star, she said "YES!" Check out the romantic on-air proposal below!
