Twilight Concerts at Emory Set for July 11 & 18

Warm summer evenings are enriched with light, musical fare and family picnics at the 2013 Twilight Concerts, presented by the Emory Summer Concert Band under the direction of Scott Stewart, Director of Wind Studies at Emory University. This year, these free concerts take place Thursdays July 11 and July 18 at 8 p.m. in the Jenkins Courtyard of the Goizueta Business School.

"During the school year, the Emory Wind Ensemble presents concerts of varied repertoire designed to be played in and listened to in a concert hall," explains Stewart. "From my point of view, the outdoor band concerts complete the circle in honoring the heritage of the American concert band which emanates from outdoor music-making."

The Twilight Concert repertoire, modeled after the varied fare of these turn of the century concert bands, includes light wind band classics, classical transcriptions, marches, folk songs, and musical theater, all in the space of an hour. Among this year's musical selections are "Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna" overture by Franz von Suppe, "Bugler's Holiday" for twelve trumpets by Leroy Anderson, a handful of peppy marches, and a salute to film composer John Williams with music from "Far and Away," "Midway," and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

The Emory Summer Concert Band presents the 2013 Twilight Concerts July 11 and 18 at 8 p.m. in the Jenkins Courtyard of Emory's Goizueta Business School. Both evenings are free and open to the public with picnics encouraged and free parking next door in the Fishburne Parking Deck.
