Deadline reports that Tony Award nominee Tracy Letts has been made a series regular on Showtime's popular drama series HOMELAND. The Pulitzer Prize-winning actor and playwright was originally cast in a recurring role for the show's third season.

Letts will portray 'Senator Andrew Lockhart', described as "the powerful, authoritative, and commanding Committee Chairman asking tough questions as the government's investigation begins in the wake of the horrific terror attack that decimated the U.S. intelligence apparatus, and prompted a global manhunt for the world's most wanted terrorist."

The casting marks the first new series regular to sign on for the highly anticipated third season of the award-winning series. Recurring cast members F. Murray Abraham and Sarita Choudhury were recently upped to series regulars.

Letts was recently nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway debut as 'George' in Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf. He is the recipient of a Tony and a Pulitzer for his play August: Osage County, which is currently being adapted to the big screen.

Season 3 of Homeland premieres on Sept. 29th on Showtime.
