In October of 1961, "West Side Story" opened in theaters nationwide. It has been deemed one of the most "culturally significant" films ever made, by the United States Library of Congress.
"The School of Visual Arts is proud to present two nights of the film, "West Side Story", the winner of ten Academy Awards. This event will be hosted by "Bernardo", George Chakiris, Oscar and Golden Globe winner, on Sunday, November 22, at 5pm and Monday, November 23, at 7pm with a Q&A to follow each.
This is a rare opportunity to hear firsthand how this most decorated film came to life and changed the course of movie musicals forever.
George Chakiris has enjoyed a career in film, theater and television and worked with our industry's most notable talents including Gene Kelly, Rosemary Clooney, Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner and Catherine Deneuve to name a few. He made his film debut at 12 and is still performing, most recently at the Old Globe in San Diego in "In Your Arms."
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Charge Syndrome Foundation.
