NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises is proud to announce that on Friday, April 21, Telemundo Network and Universo Channel President Luis Silberwasser had the honor of presenting a $20,000 check to the Principal of SLAM Miami (Sports Leadership and Management) Charter School, a donation that will support the founding of the school's first music program. International sensation Armando Christian Perez, better known as "Pitbull," is a founder of SLAM Miami and has partaken in the educational program's concepts and curriculum. As the school's brand ambassador, Pitbull has also worked with the philanthropic community to obtain support for the program and has been active in supporting SLAM schools in Florida, Texas and Nevada. The donation to the Miami school was made possible through NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises' award-winning community platform, "El Poder en Ti" (The Power Within).

SLAM Miami Principal Francisco Jimenez accepted the donation during a ceremony that featured a panel discussion with the stars of Telemundo's new musical series "Guerra de Ídolos" (War of Idols), the first-ever musical scripted series in U.S. Spanish-language television. The series premieres tonight on Telemundo at 8pm ET/7pm CT.

More than 200 students participated in the panel discussion, which was moderated by Jorge Bernal, host of "Suelta La Sopa." "Guerra de Ídolos" stars Pedro Capo, Luis Figueroa and Christian Pagan, spoke with the students about their inspiring journeys and gave advice on pursuing career paths in the music and entertainment industries. The full ceremony was also broadcast on Facebook Live.

"El Poder En Ti" is a community initiative aimed at empowering viewers to take action for a better life by focusing on key issues such as education (Tu Educación), health (Tu Salud), finance (Tu Dinero) and civic engagement (#YoDecido). In addition to this donation, through "El Poder en Ti," Telemundo will continue to support educational opportunities and will award more than $100,000 in scholarship grants to students in the community this year.
