Prince Williams Pays Tribute to Mom Diana in Emotional Speech

At an event last night marking the 21st anniversary of the charity Child Bereavement U.K.Prince William paid tribute to his mother, Princess Diana in an emotional speech. Kensington Palace shared tweeted an image of the event at left.

Diana launched the charity in 1994, three years before she died tragically in a car accident in 1997. ulia Samuel, a friend of the late Princess Diana and godmother to 2-year-old Prince George now runs the charity which helps U.K. families and children dealing with the loss of a parent as well as terminally ill children.

Said Prince William, "My mother was determined to help those in need and she would have been immensely proud - as I am - of all that Child Bereavement U.K. has achieved these last 21 years," Prince William said from the podium. "15 years later, I was honored to be invited to become patron of Child Bereavement U.K. to continue my mother's commitment to a charity which is very dear to me."

He continued, "What my mother recognized back then - and what I understand now - is that grief is the most painful experience that any child or parent can endure," he continued. "As a father to two young children myself, I now appreciate it all the more."
