NJTV, New Jersey's public television network, and Montclair State University jointly announced today that, after a mutually beneficial three-year arrangement between the two organizations, NJTV and its weeknight news program, NJTV News, will be relocating facilities at the end of October from the Montclair State campus. The move serves to accommodate the long-term goals of both the University and the network.

"We'd like to thank President Susan Cole, her administration and staff for all of their special efforts to provide NJTV News with its first broadcast home and for being a terrific partner on many other projects over the past three years," said Neal Shapiro, the President and Chief Executive Officer of WNET, operator of NJTV. "It's been a fruitful relationship to date and we look forward to more good work with them. Planning for NJTV's future and development, however, now makes it necessary to find facilities where we can grow our staff, expand our news operation and create an environment where we can more directly interact with our viewers."

"Three years ago, when the future of public television in New Jersey was very much in doubt, Montclair State was pleased to provide the newly-created NJTV with a state-of-the-art production and broadcast home, drawing on the University's facilities, our professional and faculty expertise and our well-trained students," said Susan A. Cole, President of Montclair State University. "During the period of our partnership, both NJTV and the University have realized very substantial growth and development. Together, we have collaborated on a number of special events and public affairs programs, including a gubernatorial debate which attracted a record-breaking number of viewers for NJTV."

NJTV and Montclair State have partnered on several live, on-campus debate broadcasts, including those for the 9th District Democratic Primary (Pascrell/Rothman) and U.S. Senate Election (Kyrillos/Menendez) in 2012 and the Democratic Senate Primary (Booker/Holt/Oliver/Pallone) and the Gubernatorial Election (Christie/Buono) in 2013. The network also has aired student holiday concerts and documentaries, produced by Montclair State students, with more to come.

NJTV is currently scouting locations in New Jersey's largest city, Newark, for its new broadcast home. The network's final relocation plans are expected to be announced by early fall of this year.

NJTV News has been broadcasting from the facilities of Montclair State's School of Communication and Media, which provides training for students planning to enter the rapidly evolving communication and media industries. The School's Center for Cooperative Media partners with numerous media organizations throughout New Jersey and serves as a resource for the state's news ecosystem. The School enrolls approximately 700 undergraduate and graduate students, which is expected to increase to 1,100 over the next four years. To better serve its current and future students, the School is more than doubling the size of its facilities with the construction of a state-of-the-art, 65,000-square-foot production, post-production and academic support building slated to open in spring of 2016.
