As first reported on Deadline.com, Academy award winning actor Martin Landau has joined the cast of the yet untitled ABC drama pilot to be directed by Roland Emmerich. The project is from ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co.

The pilot was written by Emmerich and Harold Kloser and tells the story of "Carter (Max Thieriot), an astrophysics grad student in NYC who learns that he is the chosen one to destroy the forces of evil." Landau will portray Mr. Armin, described as "a blind former German soldier in World War II who is the executor of Carter’s father’s estate and one of Carter’s only true friends."

Martin Landau won the Academy Award for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi in "Ed Wood." He has also appeared on the big screen in "The Majestic" opposite Jim Carrey. The actor studied with Lee Strasberg's Actor's Studio at the start of his career and appeared on Broadway in Goat Song, Stalag 17, First Love, The Penguin and Middle of the Night.  His other film credits include "North by Northwest," "The Greatest Story Every Told," "Cleopatra," "Tucker: A Man and His Dream" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors."
