Jon Stewart and Steve Carell in Talks for IRRESISTIBLE

Jon Stewart will direct "Irresistible," a political satire film based on his original idea, according to Variety.

Sources say Steve Carell is the top choice to star in the film, though nothing is confirmed yet

No plot details have been released yet, but the movie will be in the former talk show host's political wheelhouse. Stewart directed his first film in 2014, which was the political drama "Rosewater."

"Irresistible" will be produced by Stewart, along with Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment. There is no word on when the production will start.

Carell and Stewart used to work together on Stewart's "The Daily Show." Carell is best known for playing Michael Scott on NBC's "The Office." He's also starred in comedies like "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." Other films Carell has starred in include "Foxcatcher" and "The Big Short." Carell will appear next in Amazon's "Beautiful Boy," "Welcome to Marwen" and Adam McKay's "Vice."

Stewart has largely stayed out of the public spotlight since leaving "The Daily Show," but he did headline the HBO special "Night of Too Many Stars" last November.
