Deadline.com reports that John Gallagher, Jr. (The Newsroom) will join Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins in HBO's OLIVE KITTERIDGE miniseries, directed by Lisa Cholodenko.

Based on the book by Elizabeth Strout, the OLIVE KITTERIDGE series is written by Jane Anderson and centers on Olive (McDormand), who lives in a New England town full of affairs, crime and tragedy. Gallagher, Jr. will play Christopher Kitteridge, the son of Olive and Henry (Jenkins).

Also joining the cast are Zoe Kazan as Denise, Henry's pharmacist co-worker, and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) as Jerry McCarthy, Henry's delivery boy.

John Gallagher, Jr. has appeared on Broadway in Jerusalem, American Idiot, Spring Awakening and Rabbit Hole, as well as off-Broadway's Farragut North, Port Authority and Kimberly Akimbo. Aside from TV's The Newsroom, his film credits include Short Term 12, Margaret, Jonah Hex, Whatever Works, Mr. Gibb, Pieces of April and more.

John Gallagher, Jr. has appeared on Broadway in Jerusalem, American Idiot, Spring Awakening and Rabbit Hole, as well as off-Broadway's Farragut North, Port Authority and Kimberly Akimbo.

Kazan's upcoming projects include In Your Eyes and The F Word. Recent film credits include The Pretty One, Some Girl(s), Ruby Sparks and It's Complicated. She has also appeared on TV in Bored to Death.

Plemons will next be seen in the TV movie The Missionary, as well as Flutter. He is known for his role as "Todd" on Breaking Bad and has also appeared on TV in Bent, Friday Night Lights and more. Big screen credits include The Master, Battleship and more.
