Zaptoit.com reports that ITV has given a fourth season order for the highly popular UK series DOWNTON ABBEY. The show just concluded it's most successful season in its history. According to the report, the new season will be set in the early 1920's.

Laura Mackie, ITV's director of drama, said in a statement today, "We're thrilled to welcome back a drama series that has become a much anticipated part of all our lives every autumn and achieved success around the globe. Creator, writer and executive producer Julian Fellowes and the production team, led by Gareth [Neame] and the producer Liz Trubridge, never rest on their laurels and have exciting plans for the fourth series."

The third season of the show will premiere on PBS on January 6 in the US. The public broadcasting network has not yet given word as to whether it would pick up a fourth season of the show.

Filming on Season 4 is set to begin in February for a fall 2013 premiere.
