Carla Bruni, the former first lady of France, says critics who say she changed the presidential palace were wrong in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH Charles Osgood to be broadcast April 14 (9:00 AM, ET) on The CBS Television Network.

Asked about the critics, Bruni tells CBS News correspondent Mark Phillips she didn't change anything.

"I didn't change a plate. I didn't change an ashtray," she tells Phillips. "I came into that beautiful, beautiful palace and stayed four and a half years, and really I thank the people that helped me there. I didn't change a flower."

Now that her husband, former President Nicolas Sarkozy, is out of office, Bruni has returned to her previous life as a singer-songwriter. She talks with Phillips about her return to performing, the messages in her songs, and her new CD, Little French Songs.

"It wasn't very appropriate to play live in front of the audience," Bruni, a former model, tells Phillips of her time as France's First Lady. "That wouldn't be very appropriate. It was hard to organize, you know, with the security problems and all that."

Now, however, it is "completely appropriate," she says. The new songs, she says, were written while her husband was in office. "Well, it's like I can do my job again," she says. "That's for sure."

Phillips interview with Bruni will be broadcast on CBS SUNDAY MORNING, April 14, 2013. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
