CBS News Foreign Correspondents Clarissa Ward and Elizabeth Palmer provide rare reports from inside the Syrian war tonight, Sept. 5 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

Ward slipped into rebel territory in Syria to meet the fighters that the U.S. supports. Ward spoke with a Free Syrian Army general who discussed how dire the situation is for his opposition rebels without weapons and resources. The Free Syrian Army leader took Ward to a nearly empty warehouse where its ammunition is stored.

In Damascus, Syrian government representatives took Palmer inside a prison where she was shown three people the regime alleges are religious extremists fighting with the opposition.

Patricia Shevlin is the Executive Producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY.
