CBS News Original Broadcasts Post Strong TV Year-to-Date Performances

CBS News' original broadcasts delivered strong television year-to-date performances with key news demos and viewers, according to Nielsen most current ratings as well as live plus same day ratings for the week ending June 21.

CBS News, including the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY, FACE THE NATION, CBS THIS MORNING, CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD and CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY each posted television year-to-date increases with viewers and strong numbers with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news.

Elsewhere, millions of viewers tuned in for updated encore broadcasts of 60 MINUTES and two editions of 48 HOURS last week.

CBS News' broadcasts last week featured Scott Pelley's reporting from the scene of the church shooting in Charleston; Clarissa Ward's reports from inside war-torn Yemen; Lee Cowan's look at the impact on fathers of the Family and Medical Leave Act; Tracy Smith's report on a college swim coach who helped police arrest a female coach who sexually abused her as a high school student; John Dickerson's interview with NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks; and Charlie Rose's conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Here's a recap of how CBS News' broadcasts did last week:

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY posted year-to-year growth in key demographics for the week ending June 19. The broadcast delivered 6.87 million viewers (up +13% from 6.10m) and a 1.3/06 with adults 25-54 (up +8% from 1.2/05) compared to last year. The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY added +770,000 viewers and closed the viewership gap with NBC by 1.24m viewers compared to last year. Television year-to-date, the CBS broadcast is up +3% in viewers (7.16m from 6.98m) and even in adults 25-54 (1.4/06) compared to last season.

60 MINUTES (R) delivered 6.09 million viewers and a 1.0/04 with adults 25-54 on June 21. Compared to the same night last year, 60 MINUTES maintained its adults 25-54 rating.

FACE THE NATION was the #1 Sunday morning public affairs broadcast with viewers on June 21. The broadcast delivered 2.81 million viewers and a 0.6/03 with adults 25-54. Television year-to-date, FACE THE NATION is first in with viewers (3.40m) and adults 25-54 (0.8/04). Compared to last year, FACE THE NATION is up +5% in viewers (from 3.22m), even in adults 25-54.

CBS THIS MORNING posted year-to-year gains among viewers, adults 25-54 and women 18-49, for the week ending June 19. The broadcast delivered 3.41 million viewers (+10%, from 3.10m), posted a 0.8/07 with adults 25-54 (+14% from a 0.7/06), and a 0.6/06 with women 18-49 (+20%, from a 0.5/05) compared to a year ago. CBS THIS MORNING gained +310,000 viewers compared to the same week last year, and closed the viewership gap with the "Today Show" by close to a quarter of a million (240,000) viewers. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING is delivering 3.39m viewers (up +9% from 3.09m) and a 0.9/07 with adults 25-54 (up +13% from a 0.8/6)

CBS SUNDAY MORNING remained the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers on June 21. The broadcast delivered 5.28 million viewers and a 1.0/06 with adults 25-54. Television year-to-date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING was up +1% in viewers (6.02m from 5.96m).

48 HOURS (R) on June 16 delivered 4.95 million viewers and a 1.1/03 with adults 25-54, while 48 HOURS (R) on June 20 delivered 3.96 million viewers and a 1.0/03 with adults 25-54.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY was up +5% in viewers on June 20 compared to the same day last year. The broadcast delivered 1.90 million viewers and a 0.4/03 in adults 25-54. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY is up +8% in viewers (2.10m from 1.94m) and even in adults 25-54 (0.5/04) compared to last year.
