Broadway's Marisa Tomei Joins Cast of SPIDER-MAN as 'Aunt May'

Variety reports that Marisa Tomei (Broadway's THE REALISTIC JONESES) has been cast in the role of Aunt May in Marvel and Sony's next installment of the "Spider-Man" franchise. The actress will join another theater veteran, Billy Elliot's Tom Holland who will take on the title role of Peter Parker.

The film is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Jon Watts will direct the project being produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.

Tomei is the recipient of an Academy Award for her role in My Cousin Vinnie. Other film credits include The Ides of March, and Crazy Stupid Love.

On Broadway, Tomei was most recently seen on Broadway in Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses, for which she received a Drama Desk Award. Other theater credits include Wait Until Dark, Salome, and Top Girls. Tomei will appear in a recurring role in the second season of Fox's hit drama series Empire.
