Academy Award winners Michael Douglas and Matt Damon star in acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh's swan song, BEHIND THE CANDELABRA, a new made-for-TV biopic of noted pianist and entertainer Liberace.

An extensive new behind-the-scenes look at the film has just been released by HBO, featuring the director and the fim's stars.

Subtitled "The Secret Life of Liberace", the HBO film is officially set to premiere Memorial Day weekend on the premium cable channel.

The music-centric film has many elements of particular interest to theatre fans, especially given that it features the final film score composed by EGOT - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award-winner; plus Pulitzer Prize - recipient Marvin Hamlisch, the second collaboration between Soderbergh and Hamlisch following his well-regarded work on 2009's THE INFORMANT!

BEHIND THE CANDELABRA also purportedly marks Soderbergh's final pre-retirement film - his swan song, in more ways than one - and features a script by Richard LaGravenese, who will be helming the feature film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown's two-person Off-Broadway cult musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS from his own script later this year, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

Additionally, the film is populated with many faces familiar to theatre fans - most notably, Glee star Cheyenne Jackson as well as Debbie Reynolds, Scott Bakula, Rob Lowe and more.

In my most recent InDepth InterView with Jackson (available here), conducted prior to filming, he described his role in the film as such: "I play Jerry O'Rourke, who is Liberace's first boyfriend. It's going to be pretty amazing - I couldn't be more excited. We are going to film in Vegas and Palm Springs and LA - it's going to be a real adventure."

He added that working with Soderbergh was a real dream come true: "Hey, listen, I would play the busboy in a Steven Soderbergh film!" the charming triple-threat star said with a laugh.

BEHIND THE CANDELABRA airs May 26 on HBO.
