Last week's technical difficulties put our third episode's recap out of commission, so here's a quickie overview of what we learned from "Books from Beyond:"

So many women were looking for Ash. Well, two. Ruby Knowby (Lucy Lawless) was gunning it down an empty, nondescript road, while Amanda (Jill Marie Jones) had already made it to Books from Beyond in casual, high-waisted jean detective mode. She'd been interviewing the owner, Lionel Hawkins (Kelson Henderson).

Ash and Amanda finally meet, but she kept her cool about recognizing him until after going outside to get confirmation that he was actually the guy from the police sketch she'd been looking for. After getting corroboration, she headed back in, gun drawn. Pablo and Kelly, who'd been waiting in the car, saw her pull her gun, and followed her inside. Pablo knocked her out before learning she was a cop (oops), and they handcuffed her in a back room.

Lionel was stoked to get to see the Necromicon in person, but translating it was proving to be not as easy as Ash had hoped. Pablo inadvertently suggested they summon a demon from the book to tell the how to end all the madness (the eligoss demon), which might've gone okay except Amanda managed to get loose and screw things up. Fighting ensued, Lionel took mass amounts of shattered glass to the face, and despite Amanda shooting the demon and getting knocked out (again), it was Kelly who managed to give the eligoss demon a swift hit with the Necronomicon; the demon vanished.

Ash asked Amanda if she was ready to let him explain, but she tried to arrest him AGAIN. She's proving to be a little annoying, and slightly single minded. The joke was on her though, because she cuffed the wrist attached to his fake hand. He freed himself, handcuffed her inside the shop, and left.
After Ash's exit, Lionel started to stir, revealing that he'd become possessed by a demon. He made his way toward Amanda, and ROLL CREDITS!

Episode four picked up right where three left off. Reanimated Lionel was *thisclose* to having Amanda in his clutches, when Ruby burst in present day XENA style, immediately establishing Bestie status. She eliminated Lionel before he could reveal any personal information about her, which Amanda either didn't notice or care about. However, Ruby did explain that Ash was responsible for the death of her family, and that she was bent on revenge.

Ash, Kelly, and Pablo were on their way to see Pablo's Brujo (Hemki Madera) for guidance. Kelly wasn't feeling well, but refused to go to the hospital. She probably just had a minor concussion and that's no biggie.

A speedy invisible force attacked their car. They couldn't outrun it because even with nitrous, an old car dragging around a mobile home isn't exactly KITT from KNIGHT RIDER. Anyone under the age of 30 get that reference? No? Moving on.

Brujo wasn't thrilled that Pablo had only returned because he needed help for Ash. It was a mild guilt trip; like when you go away to college and your o wants to know why you only call once a week. IT'S THE APACOLYPSE, MOTHER. Brujo did agree to help since, despite being dim, Ash had a light inside of him.

He made Ash a concoction to drink that had crushed maggots as an ingredient, but that's none of my business. Ash drank it with little hesitation, and went on a hallucinogenic trip that included clips from previous EVIL DEAD films, I DREAM OF JEANNIE, Felix the cat, talking lizards, and the UTOPIA that is Jacksonville. Florida.

Ruby presented Amanda with Ash's amputated hand, which had recently started to move again as if looking for the rest of its body. She felt that this would be key to tracking down Ash and the Book.

Pablo wanted to build Ash a robotic replacement hand with items that were conveniently on hand. Forgive the poor pun, but they also made one about terrible hair dye and pillow cases being "ash" colored, so I guess there's something in the air.

Kelly got a headache, went to the bathroom, and there we learned that she had been possessed by the eligoss demon. Now fully in control of her, superficially Kelly seemed in much better spirits. (I think that's another pun). Under the guise of helping Pablo build the hand, she electrocuted him, so she could distract Brujo, and finally had Ash alone.

She straddled Ash and the demon entered his mind. Ash's talking, giant-toothed lizard urged him to fight back. He'd too easily succumbed to the fantasy of having two working hands and basking in the Jacksonville glow. Though he eventually found the strength to combat the eligoss, in real life his hand had clenched tightly around Kelly's throat. Pablo managed to stop him, hitting him over the head (a lot of that in these last two episodes). Kelly hugged him gratefully, but as the audience, we got to see her eyes go black in typical demon fashion.

So what did you think of both or either of those episodes? Do you think Kelly will be able to stay under the radar for much longer? Will Ash come out of his high a new man with purpose? What's Ruby's endgame? Will Amanda finally let Ash tell her the truth about what's going on? Will the robot hand get any play?
