Aaron Sorkin Plans Overhaul of 'NEWSROOM' Writing Staff

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Sorkin is planning to overhaul the current writing staff of HBO's new drama series, THE NEWSROOM. The showrunner will reportedly replace the majority of the writing staff before the second season returns. 

HBO released a statement yesterday via The Hollywood Reporter which read: "Every year each show reassesses the needs of its writing staff. This process is nothing out of the ordinary."

THE NEWSROOM debuted to mixed reviews, with Sorkin receiving some criticism for the show's dialogue. The cable network recently renewed the series for a second season with all the major cast members set to return including Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Allison Pill and Dev Patel. 

'The Newsroom's executive producing team, which is led by Sorkin, also includes longtime Broadway producer Scott Rudin (The Book of Mormon, Death of a Salesman, One Man Two Guvnors). The show focuses on a network anchor (Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), and their boss (Waterston), and tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles - not to mention their own personal entanglements.

The Newsroom airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
