ABC's WORLD NEWS TONIGHT Hits Season Highs Across Key Demos

"World News Tonight with David Muir" hit season highs across all key target demos: Total Viewers (8.756 million), Adults 25-54 (2.179 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.515 million) for the week of November 3, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

"World News Tonight" turned in across-the-board improvement on the year-ago week (8.060 million, 2.057 million and 1.434 million, respectively, on w/o 11/4/13): Total Viewers (+9%), Adults 25-54 (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%). "World News Tonight" grew the most in overall viewers and Adults 25-54, while standing as the only evening newscast to grow in Adults 18-49 compared to "CBS Evening News (-2%/+2% %/-3%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+2%/-6%/-7%).

"World News Tonight" slashed its year-to-year gaps with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers (-42% - 697,000 vs. 1.192 million), Adults 25-54 (-96% - 12,000 vs. 268,000) and Adults 18-49 (-71% - 77,000 vs. 270,000).

For the 2014 November sweep to date (10/30 - 11/09/14), "World News Tonight" trails "NBC Nightly News" by just 3,000 Adults 25-54 viewers (2.097 million vs. 2.100 million). The ABC evening newscast is slashing nearly all of its news demo gap with "Nightly News" (-99% - 3,000 vs. 200,000) versus the comparable point of the 2013 November sweep to its closet performance during the month in 11 years - since November 2003.

11 days into the 2014 November sweep, "World News Tonight" is averaging ahead of its performance from the same point of the 2013 November sweep across target demos: Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%). Through the comparable number of days during November sweeps periods, "World News Tonight" is pacing to its largest overall audience in 6 years and best in both key adult demos in 5 years - since November 2008 and November 2009, respectively.

The ABC evening newscast also posted week-to-week increases in Total Viewers (+8%), Adults 25-54 (+10%) and Adults 18-49 (+15%) - 8.112 million, 1.981 million and 1.322 million, respectively, for w/o 10/27/14.

Season to date, "World News Tonight" stands as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54, leading "NBC Nightly News" by 57,000 news demo viewers. This marks the first time in 7 years that "World News Tonight" ranks as the top evening newscast in Adults 25-54 during the season - since the 2007-08 season. In addition, "World News Tonight" slashed its season gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by 41% in Total Viewers (482,000 vs. 822,000) and by 69% in Adults 18-49 (74,000 vs. 238,000) to its closest performances in 6 years and 7 years, respectively - since the 2008-09 and the 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

"World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%). Delivering increases for the 2nd season in a row, "World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 7 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 5 years - since the 2007-08 and the 2009-10 seasons, respectively. Standing as the only evening newscast to be up in all key measures, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS Evening News" (-1%/+2%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+1%/-8%).

For the week, "World News Tonight" led the "CBS Evening News" by 1.511 million Total Viewers, by 342,000 Adults 25-54 and by 318,000 Adults 18-49.
