ABC's WORLD NEWS Delivers Highest Overall Audience in 8 Seasons

Season to date, ABC News "World News Tonight with David Muir" is averaging 461,000 more viewers, compared to the same time frame last season (8.314 million vs. 7.853 million), while "NBC Nightly News" is posting a 204,000 average loss (8.680 million vs. 8.884 million).

For the 3rd year in a row, "World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+6%). In fact, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers compared to "CBS Evening News" (+3%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%). In addition, "World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 8 years - since the 2006-07 season.

Season to date, "World News Tonight" has slashed its season margins with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers (-65% - 366,000 vs. 1.031 million), Adults 25-54 (-81% - 29,000 vs. 152,000) and Adults 18-49 (-54% - 98,000 vs. 214,000), delivering its closest performances with the NBC program in all three demos in 8 years - since the 2006-07 season.

For the week of August 31, 2015, "World News Tonight" averaged 7.706 million Total Viewers, 1.813 million Adults 25-54 and 1.211 million Adults 18-49 for the week of August 31, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. David Muir anchored the evening newscast from the Vatican and had exclusive reports leading up to ABC's special, "Pope Francis and the People."

"World News Tonight" was up on the previous week in Total Viewers (+1% - 7.706 million vs. 7.647 million on w/o 8/24/15).

"World News Tonight" narrowed its week-to-week margins with "NBC Nightly News" by double-digits in Total Viewers (-29% - 548,000 vs. 777,000) and Adults 25-54 (-14% - 196,000 vs. 228,000).

"World News Tonight" led the "CBS Evening News" by 1.177 million Total Viewers, by 390,000 Adults 25-54 and by 225,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: Due to low coverage (92%), "NBC Nightly News" was retitled to "NBC Nitely News" on Thursday (9/3/15) and the telecast was excluded from the weekly averages. NBC's averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed, Fri).
