Marina Poplavskaya will make her Met role debut as Marguerite in the initial run of performances of the Met's new production of Gounod's Faust this fall. She replaces Angela Gheorghiu, who has withdrawn from the production for artistic reasons. Ms. Poplavskaya was already scheduled to sing Marguerite during the second run of Faust performances next winter.

The new production, which opens on November 29th, will be conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and directed by Des McAnuff in his Met debut. Jonas Kaufmann sings the title role for the first time at the Met in the initial run, with Michèle Losier as Siébel, Russell Braun as Valentin, and René Pape as Méphistophélès. Later performances feature Roberto Alagna and Joseph Calleja in the title role, Malin Byström as Marguerite, Kate Lindsey as Siébel, George Petean and Brian Mulligan as Valentin, Ferruccio Furlanetto as Méphistophélès, and Alain Altinoglu as conductor.
