London's Little Opera House (at the King's Head Theatre) - the first opera house on the London fringe - is now the first fringe theatre in London to launch a repertory season. Setting a standard for the future of our theatre, resident company OperaUpClose continues the success of four of its operas (La Bohème, Cinderella, Madam Butterfly and The Barber Of Seville) and introduces a brand new production (Leoncavallo's Pagliacci).

Our first rep season is January 23 - March 31, and we will announce a new programme every two months. To make our productions as clear and engaging as possible (for opera virgins, skeptics and afficionados alike), we always work with fresh English translations, and two of this season's productions feature innovative new orchestrations. On top of this programme we will continue to present an exciting schedule of late night (10pm) shows from visiting companies, offering up to four shows a day, with tickets from £10.

"If it's good enough for La Scala Milan, then we say it's good enough for London's Little Opera House at the King's Head, Islington. This year we'll be mixing up the most popular operas with new pieces and rediscoveries, all of them performed by Opera UpClose's amazingly talented pool of singers.
London's Little Opera House: why come once when you can come again and again?"

London's Little Opera House

LA BOHÈME by Puccini
Now in its second year, the world's longest continuously running opera production comes to London's Little Opera House for the first time. Aspiring novelist Rodolfo falls for an immigrant cleaner and learns the price of living for love and art.

CINDERELLA by Rossini
The classic fairytale is given a fresh, modern twist in this witty new production. With a little help from a Fairy Godfather and a Boris bike, Prince Ramiro falls for Cinderella, the one girl who is unimpressed by his wealth and fame - despite the attempts of his nouveau-riche sisters to turn his head.

MADAM BUTTERFLY (OR BANGKOK BUTTERFLY) by Puccini
Madam Butterfly (or Bangkok Butterfly) is transplanted to present-day Bangkok for this radical reinterpretation of Puccini's masterpiece. This new version portrays Pinkerton as an American Airlines pilot and Butterfly as a Thai prostitute.

THE BARBER OF SEVILLE (OR SALISBURY) by Rossini
The Barber of Seville is transported to Jane Austen's England in this charming and hilarious re-telling. Obsequious Dr Bartleby has designs on Rosina, but she is far more interested in a handsome stranger. The whole affair is managed by Figaro, the barber who knows everyone's business and can fix your love life with ease.

PAGLIACCI by Leoncavallo
A touring troupe of performers in provincial Europe find their personal lives spilling onto the stage in this gritty tale of jealousy and murder. In this brand new OperaUpClose production, illusions of romance are stripped away to reveal the brutal, seedy reality of human nature.
