VIDEO: Miley Cyrus Breaks Silence on Controversial VMA Performance: 'I Don't Pay Attention to the Negative'

MTV News has revealed an exclusive clip featuring pop star Miley Cyrus who finally breaks her silence on her much-talked about performance on last week's VMA's on MTV. The appearance, which included a sexed-up duet with singer Robin Thicke, drew both harsh criciism and peer admiration. Below, check out what the former Disney star had to say in a clip from her upcoming MTV News documentary.

Speaking on the VMA awards themselves, the singer shared, "Anyone who performs [on the show], you want to make history. Me and Robin the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now.'"

She adds, "I don't pay attention to the negative because I¹ve seen this play out so many times. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?"

Last week, Cyrus released her second single off her 'Bangerz' album, the new ballad "Wrecking Ball." (get a first listen here!) BANGERZ will be Miley's fourth studio album following her mixed reviewed venture, 'Can't Be Tamed'.

On June 3 she released, 'We Can't Stop', the lead single from the album. In the United States, the track debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 with first-week sales of 214,000 downloads. Additionally it entered the Hot Digital Songs component chart at number three. The single has since reached 'Platinum' in the United States and Australia.
