BATTLESHIPS

BIO:
Battleships has four members – Jordan, Jonathan, Dan and Nato. Jordan and Jonathan (who have been friends since primary school) had always written music and been in bands together – some good, most bad. Jonathan was also friends with Dan, and together, they decided to move from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast to Sydney. However, even though distance had separated them, Jordan and Jonathan were still writing songs together over Skype… and, as Dan had the necessary equipment needed to record music, Jonathan and Dan began recording these songs and working on developing a sound. Still, as great as technology is, Jonathan and Dan realised that everyone needs to be in the same place to play the songs. After much coercing, Jonathan finally convinced Jordan to venture to Sydney as well. They then sourced friend and guitarist Nato Hannaford to complete the line-up, and thus Battleships was formed. Since forming, the four-piece have exceeded even their own expectations. Their debut single In Retrospect landed on high rotation on Australian national and community radio as well as receiving international attention from the likes of BBC6 and Q Radio in the UK. The music video for the song has done well in it’s own right, receiving airtime on national television as well as exposure on many blogs and websites, both nationally and internationally. Their follow up single Your Words has already been added to rotation on Triple J, and looks set to propel the band on even further. Battleships’ music tips its hat to the differing influences of the band’s individual members, blending indie rock sensibilities with the aesthetics of Post-Britpop, to create a sound entirely their own. They set out to create music that they enjoy playing, something that they themselves would listen to… and hopefully, something that you would listen to too.
