Iconic rock band Green Day made their daytime television debut on ELLEN with an awesome performance of one of their biggest hits "American Idiot" - check it out below!

As BWW reported back in October, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong confirmed in an interview that Broadway's 2011 musical AMERICAN IDIOT, featuring the music of Green Day, will be adapted into a movie for HBO. Said the frontman, "We've got a green light from HBO. The script is currently going through a couple of rewrites here and there, so I'm not sure when exactly we're going to start shooting, but it's definitely all systems go at the moment."

Armstrong would reprise his role as St. Jimmy, whom he portrayed occasionally throughout the show's Broadway run. It remains unclear if the movie version will air on HBO's cable channel or be released in theaters.

AMERICAN IDIOT began preview performances on March 24, 2010 and opened on Broadway to critical acclaim on April 20, 2010. The show follows three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for meaning in a post 9-11 world leads them on an exhilarating journey.

Based on Green Day's groundbreaking rock opera American Idiot, Billie Joe Armstrong and the band collaborate with one of the theatre's most acclaimed creative teams, led by the Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award-winning composer and orchestrator Tom Kitt, and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett, to bring this explosive, iconic album to the stage.
