Brooklyn-by-North-Carolina-based URUGUAY have just released their debut video for the stunning piece, "Sabrina Segment," via ROOKIE this week. The story of "Sabrina Segment: is not an easy one to tell. It is the raw story of members Ben and Stepha, from my, Stepha's, perspective. This is about what her experiences have been like since coming to New York and embarking on adulthood. This video is meant to be a portrayal of the complexities of life and showing how it can be hard, raw and unfair, but at the same time balanced.

"It was extremely important for us to include local and young talent throughout the process of creating this video. The lyrics of the song are about young people demanding to be given a chance ("My dreams are fast, give me all of your cash, cash, cash"). We not only wanted to tell that story through the video itself, but also through every part of the making of it, including the process and people we used to make the video," says the duo.

ABOUT URUGUAY: Uruguay is a transient electronic band created by Stepha Murphy and Benjamin Dawson-Sivalia. Their music features hauntingly beautiful vocal melodies atop driving and atmospheric production, and is largely inspired by the duo's diverse musical backgrounds as well as their experiences since moving to New York City.

Both Stepha and Benjamin have extensive, and largely self-taught, musical backgrounds. Stepha's mother was a trained opera singer and began giving her voice lessons at an early age. She then began learning classical piano, by ear, at the age of 11 and continued playing for eight years.

The son of a violin maker and a vocalist, Benjamin grew up playing drums, guitar and piano. He studied jazz saxophone in college, going abroad to London and Barcelona where he began to simultaneously delve into production and classical guitar.

After meeting in North Carolina the two moved to New York City to pursue careers in modeling (Stepha) and music production (Ben). Moving to NYC proved difficult as they were initially scammed out of their savings, leaving them homeless. They endured further triumphs and difficulties, which laid the groundwork, and need, for creative expression that eventually manifested itself as Uruguay.

The band officially formed after Stepha decided to move her focus more heavily on music. The two worked together on the score for a Brooklyn-based drag documentary in late 2016, and Uruguay was formed soon after in early 2016. Uruguay now serves as a platform for Stepha and Benjamin to express themselves creatively through music, visuals, fashion and art.
