Texas Performing Arts opens the 2012-2013 season with an evening of bluegrass and newgrass featuring The Infamous Stringdusters and special guest Wood and Wire, September 6 at Bass Concert Hall.

The Infamous Stringdusters are at the forefront of a new movement in bluegrass music. Their unmatched virtuosity and improvisational chops take acoustic music to a completely new level. Named 2007’s Emerging Artist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association, this Grammy nominated outfit is tearing up the newgrass concert and festival scene.

A collective of five musicians who each left successful slots in various touring bands, the Stringdusters are essentially a super-group. The band’s members hold tenures alongside luminaries like Dolly Parton, Earl Scruggs, and Levon Helm, to name a few. The live Stringdusters experience is anti-formulaic, groove friendly, and mind-expanding - not your granddaddy's bluegrass; unless your granddaddy was Jerry Garcia.

Austin bluegrass band Wood & Wire will open the performance.
