When the eagerly awaited classic rock group Starship makes a landing at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre on Labor Day tonight, Sept. 3 @ 8pm, it will bring a sound that takes its roots from rock royalty of the '70s and the sing-ability of its iconic hits from the '80s.

With charismatic lead vocalist Mickey Thomas at the helm for 30 years, the band known for such distinctive hits as “We Built This City,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, ” “Jane,” “Find Your Way Back” and “Sara” emerged as a spin-off of the legendary Jefferson Starship. Thomas, who gained international fame with his distinctive voice in “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” has a soaring voice that has carried Starship through their rise to superstardom and album after album that climbed to gold, platinum or multi-platinum.

Among other top-selling recordings, its platinum album, Knee Deep in the Hoopla, featured two number one hits, and its music has been nominated for both Grammy and Academy Awards.

The Labor Day concert will begin at 8 p.m. and the outdoor venue is located at 699 South State, in the middle of Orem’s SCERA Park. General admission tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for children (age 3-11), seniors (age 65+) and students (w/ID). Reserved seating areas ranges from $16-20 for adults and $14-$18 for children, seniors and students. They are available from 10am-6pm weekdays at the main office at SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem, by calling (801) 225-ARTS, online at www.scera.org or at the gate one hour prior to performance.

The group went through many changes to get to its current version, but in 1992, the band re-formed as Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and has found a highly successful career as a classic rock powerhouse on tours nationwide with their get-up-and-dance tunes that are irresistible summer ear candy.

“This will be a fun way to end the summer,” says SCERA President & CEO. “I’m sure people will be dancing and singing and it will be a great party atmosphere.”
