Rock Paper Scissors announced upcoming Winter concerts and tours across the nation:

Eileen Ivers, An Nollaig: An Irish Christmas 2011 Tour

Eileen Ivers and her ensemble will take Christmas festivities across the U.S. this December. Whether teaming up with local orchestras or with community dancers and singers, Ivers presents a vision of Christmastide that embraces the friendliness of a family gathering and the supreme musicality of a seasoned, skilled master.

Tour Dates in Northeast, Midwest, and Texas.

Club d'Elf, Electric Moroccoland/So Below (Face Pelt Records)

Morocco, the country that had fired his musical imagination for more than a decade: In a strikingly vivid dream, he felt himself swimming upwards in the air as fantastic landscapes, mountains, and tiled buildings stretched out beneath him.

Concert: 12/11/11 New York, NY

Slide to Freedom, 20,000 Miles (Northern Blues)

They sat in silence, holding their breath as the last note of a wild, twining jam faded in a legendary Memphis studio. “Well, what are we going to call that?” laughed sacred steel elder Calvin Cooke, looking across the room at the 17th-generation Indian virtuoso, the hard-touring Canadian folk musician, the merry tabla whiz, the bold singer-songwriter from Austin.

The Afro-Semitic Experience, Further Definitions of the Days of Awe (Reckless DC Music)

For The Afro-Semitic Experience, there is dancing before the temple of sound. The kings and queens of the Cotton Club trade eights with the rock stars of cantorial music’s golden age. Booker T and the MGs and Astor Piazolla inspire new visions of High Holy Day chants.

Concerts: 12/18/11 White Plains, NY; 01/07/12 New York, NY

KG Omulo, Ayah Ye! Moving Train

Singer, songwriter, and dance-floor instigator KG Omulo can do anything. He regularly packs American clubs with gritty calls for justice and hard-hitting Afrofunk. He has moved sold-out arenas with his baritone voice in his native Kenya. He takes on the dark ironies of politics, with anger in the groove, reveling in the potential to shake things up while shaking your thing.

Concert: 01/14/12 Orlando, FL

Sevara Nazarkhan, Tortadur (Sevaramusic)

The grief of eternal exile and the ancient ache of love echoed in the pitch-black studio. From gut strings and china saucers, from frame drums and clacking trains, singer Sevara Nazarkhan urged centuries of urgent whispers, secret sighs, and passionate prayers into a new and intimate life.

TriBeCaStan, New Deli (EverGreene Music)

This morning Aljazzeera reported that the questionable nation of TriBeCaStan has made scientific breakthrus in time travel. The unrecognized republic of nomads has broken the code of the time/space continuum. And by broken we mean: it no longer works. Applying sonic techniques once only known to a small group of punk rock shamans, the nation's most prestigious scientific entity, the TriBeCaStani FolkLorkEstra, uses sound alone to simultaneously place listeners in eras separated by decades and terrains separated by oceans.

Concerrt: 01/27/12 New York, NY

globalFEST 2012, Webster Hall (NYC)

Malian roots rap and sensually fresh samba. Eerily avant jaw harps and 21st-century tarantella. Heritage never sounded so cool. Whether continuing famous musical lineages or pushing forward on new paths, the artists of globalFEST show how world music has matured from a quaint, catch-all niche to a meaningful, deeply rooted challenge to the musical status quo. Artists are crafting history into new sounds.

Festival: 01/08/12 New York, NY (12 artists)

Old Town School of Folk Music, Live From the Old Town School (Old Town School Recordings)

On a stack of DATs in a shoebox lay the history of American music. There were local legends and major icons, global musicians and indie rockers. Some captured beautifully from the board, some gleaned quietly from the dusty archives of a radio station, the recordings held wildly creative decades of sound from Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music, a roots-music touchstone for nearly 55 years. And no one had heard them.

Brazilian Beat (Putumayo)

Glittering break beats are at home with bouncing berimbaus while rolling Afro-Brazilian rhythms, retro samba soul and velvety bossa nova vocals mesh and groove organically. This is the unstoppable Brazilian Beat.

Chopteeth, 2011 Winter Tour

Bursting with old-school big band power, Afrobeat crew Chopteeth know how to turn skeptical foot-tappers into shirt-whirling, wolf-whistling believers.

Concert: 12/03/11 Washington, DC; 12/27/11 Arlington, VA
