The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) presents musician, artist, and founding member of band Sonic Youth Kim Gordon on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N Southport Ave). The iconic post-punk rocker comes to Chicago to discuss her new memoir, Girl in a Band, with CHF Program Director and former WBEZ host Alison Cuddy. The program will include an opening performance by Girls Rock! Chicago alum Alex Lund, with a book signing following the discussion. Tickets range from $8-18, with book/ticket packages available for $33-38. The Shortlist, CHF's program for young professionals, is also offering a discounted ticket/party package for $22. Tickets are currently on sale at chicagohumanities.org or via the CHF Box Office at 312-494-9509.

Artist, musician, producer, writer, and actress Kim Gordon takes the CHF stage to speak about her new memoir Girl in a Band (Feb. 24). The famously reserved superstar speaks candidly about her past and the future. From her childhood in the sunbaked suburbs of Southern California, to her coming of age in New York's downtown art and music scene in the eighties and nineties, as part of the band that would pave the way for acts like Nirvana and inspire the Riot Grrrl generation, Girl in a Band is an edgy and evocative portrait of a life in art.

"Kim Gordon is a hugely influential figure in so many areas of culture--music, art, fashion--and a role model to so many women," said Cuddy. "We're thrilled to host her in Chicago for what's sure to be an illuminating and inspiring conversation!"

The program will be moderated by CHF Program Director Alison Cuddy. Before coming to CHF, she spent more than 10 years at WBEZ 91.5 FM. There she helped launch Odyssey, a nationally syndicated talk show of arts and ideas, hosted the flagship morning program Eight Forty-Eight, and reported on arts and culture. She currently hosts Strange Brews, a podcast about the culture and community around craft beer.

Alex Lund, of Girls Rock! Chicago, will provide the opening entertainment for this program. Girls Rock! Chicago is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering girls' creative expression, positive self-esteem, and community awareness through rock music. Through their music education programs for girls ages 8 to 16, they are committed to educating girls about the musical, technical, and creative aspects involved in musicianship.
