Recording Academy Issues Statement on Passing of Album Art Designer John Berg

John Berg, the veteran Columbian Records art designer who was responsible for the iconic album covers of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and more, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11th in Southampton, N.Y. after a battle with pneumonia, according to the New York Times. He was 83. Berg was the recipient of four Grammy Awards for his exemplary work.

The Recording Academy issued the following statement on his passing:

John Berg was one of the most prolific and productive art directors in the business. During his decades-long career at Columbia Records, he was responsible for the design of more than 5,000 album covers, winning four GRAMMY Awards® in the process. John created unforgettable covers for a wide-range of influential artists including the Byrds, Bob Dylan, Bessie Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and many more. His legacy will live on in his iconic cover art. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and all those who had the pleasure of working with him.
