Winnipeg's emotive garage pop-rock trio Mise en Scene has returned with their sophomore full length album, Still Life On Fire, due out June 30 on Light Organ Records. The band's tireless tour and promotion schedule leant inspiration to the creative process for this new collection, begging the question "are you awake in your happiness?" From the opening snarl, album single "Closer" is a blistering punk powerhouse. The "Closer" video tells an unexpected bittersweet love story through the scope of an adult film industry set. The "Closer" video premiered with Playboy today and is available to post/share HERE.

"The "Closer" video is really a unique love story told within the world of pornography." shares frontwoman Stefanie Blondal Johnson. "We went with this treatment because we love what Lloyd and his team at The Herd does. We trust his vision and had many discussions to ensure the content was handled with taste, sincerity, and respect. It was very important to us not to stigmatize sex work. The film is more of a commentary on the world that we live in and our longing to be closer to others; the need for compassion and companionship in a world that can feel so lonely and fragmented."

Director Lloyd Choi (The Herd) adds, "For us, it was important to not glorify the adult industry or bluntly criticize it as well ... it's not for us to judge. We simply wanted to capture the innocence and feeling of young love that's filled with ache and yearning. And for me, it was more interesting putting that story against a backdrop you often don't see (especially in music videos)."

A nod to the 90s riot grrrl in both prose and punk prowess, Mise en Scene was founded by art school friends Stefanie Blondal Johnson and Jodi Dunlop. The duo are joined by Corey Hykawy (bass) for their latest effort. Following their critically acclaimed 2012 debut, the band received a 2014 Sirius XM Indies Award nomination and toured extensively, making appearances at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, a show in downtown Paris to over 15,000 people and SXSW earlier this year. Still Life On Fire is a 12-track reflective tour de force of irresistible hooks, rib-rattling guitar, vocal melodies that range from lush and playful to biting and raw.
