Veteran radio personality Paul Cavalconte will host a freewheeling new Saturday night program on WFUV (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), New York's public radio station for music discovery, beginning May 9th. To be called Paul Cavalconte's Cavalcade, it will air on Saturdays from 8:00-10:00 p.m., the slot vacated by Vin Scelsa's Idiot's Delight. The announcement was made at the conclusion of Scelsa's last broadcast on May 2nd.

"Vin is irreplaceable," said WFUV General Manager Chuck Singleton. "We hoped to find a personality who would carry on the legacy of smart, free-form radio, while bringing his or her own unique style and substance. It turns out he was right under our noses, one of WFUV's great fill-in hosts."

"This affirms FUV's commitment to the Art of the DJ," added WFUV Program Director Rita Houston. Paul is a one in a million personality, with an expansive knowledge of all kinds of music. We're very excited to have him on the unleash his creativity on Saturday nights."

Cavalconte has been broadcasting on local New York City radio stations, and coast to coast on satellite and network radio for the past 30 years, but he started young, as a student host and music director of WFUV at Fordham University, graduating in 1983 with a degree in communications. That led to his residency with legendary New York area stations through the '80s and '90s, such as WLIR, WNEW-AM, WNCN and Q104.3. Cavalconte hosted drive times at pop-jazz stalwart CD101.9 and remained though the station's transition to Rock Alternative WRXP. For the past few years, Paul has focused on public radio in New York, freelancing for WQXR and guest hosting at WFUV since March, 2013. That homecoming brought Paul full circle to the station that started it all.

"I am honored to carry on the legacy of free-form radio that Vin Scelsa pioneered so brilliantly,"

commented Cavalconte, "especially his longstanding credo of respecting the elders and

embracing the new. That will be the spine of what I flesh out as a new Saturday night

destination for emerging and local artists, along with a loving, generous raid of WFUV's deep

music library. This is an unprecedented platform for me to tie together my eclectic adventures

in radio and music."
