According to Glee star Kevin McHale, the hit singing group One Direction recently turned down an offer to appear on the sixth and final season of the FOX musical dramedy.

McHale, who portrays Artie Abrams on the long-running series, revealed that Glee producers have been "desperate" to sign up the British boy band for a cameo appearance on the show's final season, but the group has no time in their busy work schedule to fit it in.

"We wanted them on the show badly and I thought it might happen at one time," McHale tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "But then they just became too big, too busy."

Over the past five seasons, a host of pop stars have made appearances on the show including Britney Spears, Ricky Martin and Demi Lovato. Glee has also lured some of the biggest names on Broadway to guest on the show including Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris.
