The sky will illuminate with musical fireworks when America's Oldest Continuing Chamber Music Festival, Music Mountain, celebrates the 4th of July! The weekend begins on Friday, July 3rd (7:30pm) with Colin Carr, cello and Jonathan Yates, piano, in recital performing Bach and Beethoven. The festivities continue Saturday, July 4th (6:30pm) with Jeff Newell's New-Trad Quartet playing the best of New Orleans jazz! Sunday, July 5th (3pm) brings the Arianna String Quartet, with guest artist Colin Carr, Cello, performing Mozart, Boccherini, and Grieg. A diverse musical weekend that brings people together is paramount to Music Mountain's mission - and this weekend will be one that the entire family can enjoy! Chamber music concerts, jazz, country, and folk bands play thru September 27th.

The third and final concert in the Distinguished Artist Recital Series, featuring the guest faculty of this year's Music Mountain Master classes, is Friday evening with Colin Carr, Cello and Jonathan Yates, Piano performing Bach: Suite # 1 for Solo Cello in G Major, BWV 1007; Beethoven: Sonata for Cello & Piano #3 in A Major, Opus 69; and Bach: Suite # 6 for Solo Cello in D Major, BWV 1012 - a Music Mountain premiere!

Colin Carr appears throughout the world as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, and teacher. He has played with major orchestras worldwide including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic; renowned conductors such as Rattle, Gergiev, Dutoit, and Elder; and has been a regular guest at the classical music festival, BBC Proms. With his duo partner Thomas Sauer he has played recitals throughout the United States and Europe and as a member of the Golub-Kaplan-Carr Trio, he recorded and toured extensively for 20 years. Mr. Carr is Professor of Music, Cello and Chamber Music at Stony Brook University and visiting professor of cello at the Royal Academy of Music.

Jonathan Yates, pianist, is the fourth Musical Director of Music Mountain in its eighty-six year history. He is also Music Director of both the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and the Norwalk Youth Symphony. He has collaborated with many of the country's most respected musicians, including Midori, Kim Kashkashian, David Finckel, Gilbert Kalish, Ida Kavafian, Colin Carr, Paul Neubauer, Joseph Lin, and Anthony McGill. Mr. Yates made his professional orchestral conducting debut at 23, leading the National Symphony Orchestra in a Millennium Stages Concert, and made his Carnegie Hall debut (Stern Auditorium) as a pianist in the following year. He has also served on the faculty of Sarah Lawrence College.

Thrilling audiences from the Atlantic to the Rockies since 1994, Jeff Newell's New-Trad Quartet -- The Brass Band you can fit in your pocket! -- showcases the rich musical history of New Orleans and the roots of American music on Saturday evening. Combining instruments and elements of a traditional New Orleans brass band with those of a modern jazz group, this ensemble explores the early sources of our nation's musical heritage (church music, band music, blues, etc.) and combines these influences in ways that speak to and excite modern audiences of all ages!

Music Mountain guests can attend the annual fireworks display at Lime Rock Park following the concert with the celebration set to begin at 9pm (time approximate). Concession stands and live entertainment get the evening started before the big event!

The holiday weekend continues on Sunday with the Arianna String Quartet performing Mozart: String Quartet in D Minor, K.421; Boccherini: Cello Concerto in G Major, G. 480 - a Music Mountain debut!; and Grieg: String Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 27 - first played during Music Mountain's inaugural 1930 season! The quartet will be joined by guest artist Colin Carr, Cello.

Hailed for their outstanding musicianship, the Arianna String Quartet has firmly established itself as one of America's finest chamber ensembles. They have appeared throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia, with frequent visits to Brazil and South Africa. Their current season includes two stops in Brazil and multiple US tour. The Arianna String Quartet continue the Arianna Chamber Music Festival, held on the campus of the University of Missouri - St. Louis, where they have been full-time faculty since 2000.

Music Mountain is located in Falls Village, Connecticut on Music Mountain Road, where a short scenic drive will bring you to Gordon Hall atop Music Mountain. Free parking and picnic facilities are available. Food, locally baked cookies, coffee, and spring water are available for purchase.

Upcoming quartets scheduled to perform include Peter Serkin and Julia Hsu, piano, 4 hands (July 12); Enso String Quartet with Soyeon Kate Lee, piano (July 19); Avalon String Quartet with Jan Opalach, bass-baritone and Jonathan Yates, piano (July 26); Penderecki String Quartet with Matt Haimowitz, cello (August 2).

The Saturday Evening Twilight Series will continue with Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks (July 11); The New Black Eagle Jazz Band (July 18); Swingtime Big|Brave Band (July 25); The Sharon Playhouse (August 1).

All tickets for the Mid-Season Benefit Concert on Sunday, July 12 with Peter Serkin and Julia Hsu are $60. Tickets for the Labor Day Benefit Concert & Reception on Sunday, September 6 are $75 and include a voucher for any regularly priced 2015 or 2016 concert.

Chamber Music Concerts are $35 at the door/$30 in advance. Twilight Series Concerts are $30 at the door/$27 in advance. Friday evenings Distinguished Artist Recital Concert: $35 at the door/$30 in advance. Children ages 5-18 are admitted FREE for ALL CONCERTS when accompanied by a ticket holder. Saturday Twilight Concerts are at 6:30pm. Chamber Music concerts are at 3pm on Sundays, unless otherwise noted. Group rates and pre season ticket vouchers are available.
