Telemundo announced today the renowned performers that will pay tribute to Juan Gabriel during the 2016 LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS. World music singer Lila Downs, Spanish songstress Shaila Durcal and the "Ambassador of Mexican Music" Aida Cuevas will be joined on stage by Mariachi De Mi Tierra Juan Gabriel, which toured with the late artist for over two decades, on a musical number produced by his longtime producer and orchestra director Eduardo Magallanes. In addition, the network announced its star-studded list of award presenters, as well as its hosts for the pre-show special "La Alfombra de Latin AMAs" and its post-show special "Latin AMAs Acceso VIP." Produced by Telemundo and SOMOS Productions, the awards show will broadcast live on Thursday, October 6 at 8pm/7c from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The "Latin AMAs" will also be simulcast on NBC UNIVERSO in the U.S. and on Telemundo Internacional on 21 Latin American countries. Tickets for the highly anticipated awards ceremony are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com and the Dolby Theatre box office.
Lila Downs has one of the world's most singular voices and innovative approaches to music. Born in the state of Oaxaca, México, Lila grew up both in Minnesota and Oaxaca. Her music and vocal artistry have many influences and is as varied as the ancient cultures that serve as her inspiration. Lila's compositions are often striking commentaries on social conditions, reflecting migration and the search for roots as a core human need. She has placed five albums on the Billboard World Albums chart, all debuting in the top 10. Most recently, her album "Balas y Chocolate" peaked at No. 3. Lila's lifelong dream of collaborating with Juan Gabriel was realized when she included a cover of "La Farsante" featuring Juan Gabriel in that album.
Spanish vocalist Shaila Durcal was born to parents Rocio Durcal and Antonio Morales, both towering figures in Spanish music. While working on what would be her debut release, Rocio Durcal passed unexpectedly, and Shaila chose to dedicate the album in her honor, both as a person and as a musician. "Recordando," Shaila's reworking of Rocio's most popular repertoire, came out in February of 2007 and featured iconic Juan Gabriel songs made popular by her mother like "Amor Eterno" and "Costumbres," among others. Three of her albums have charted on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. Her self-titled set most recently charted in 2015, reaching No. 18.
Aida Cuevas is recognized as "The Ambassador of Mexican music." She has shared the stage with international artists such as Placido Domingo, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, Luciano Pavarotti, Vicente Fernandez and Juan Gabriel, with whom she toured in 2015 and to whom she dedicated two albums during her career. She has performed for distinguished personalities such as U.S. Presidents Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush; the King and Queen of Spain; Sean Connery and each sitting Mexican President from Luis Echeverria all the way to Enrique Peña Nieto. The unique style of Aida Cuevas allowed her to achieve a successful and long-lasting career. She continues to bring joy to millions of people around the world with her voice, leaving an important mark in the musical history of Mexico and Latin America.
Eduardo Magallanes is an arranger, orchestra director, music producer and has earned notoriety as artistic director in the recording industry and entertainment in general for more than four decades. He has worked with Armando Manzanero, Emmanuel, Alejandro Fernandez and Placido Domingo, among others. This year he worked as arranger of the Symphony of the Americas under the direction of James Brooks Bruzzese to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the orchestra with Summer with the Symphony. He collaborated with Juan Gabriel since the beginning of his career for the singer's major events as well as producing, arranging and directing a trilogy of greatest hits. In 2013, he coordinated and created some of the arrangements of Juan Gabriel's concert: "Celebrando sus 40 Años de Artista" at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts, among many other important projects in the late artist's career.

The "Latin American Music Awards" pays tribute to today's most influential and iconic Latin artists, as voted by the fans in the traditional format of the "American Music Awards," the world's biggest fan-voted award show. For the second groundbreaking year, the show will feature performances by chart-topping talent in both English and Spanish.
