Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Bobby McFerrin & More Set for Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts' 2014-15 Music Season

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College has announced its 2014-15 music series. This year's lineup includes 60th Anniversary Season opener Bobby McFerrin, a holiday concert by Sweet Honey in the Rock, South Africa's Lady Smith Black Mambazo, a tribute to Woody Guthrie by the Klezmatics, a cappella superstars Take 6, and Eddie Palmieri performing with his Latin Jazz Septet. These musical events reflect the artistic excellence and cultural diversity to which Brooklyn Center is dedicated. The season also features children's concerts by Black Violin and Nick Jr. favorites Hot Peas 'N Butter.

Tickets to Brooklyn Center's world music series range from $36-$60 with a 50% discount for children ages 12 and under. Tickets are available for sale to Brooklyn Center Members beginning May 6, 2014 at 12pm, and to the general public on May 20, 2014 at 12pm.

60th Anniversary Season Opener

Best known for his chart-topping single, "Don't Worry, Be Happy," Bobby McFerrin has redefined the role of the human voice in contemporary music. Even if your kids don't like vegetables, they won't be able to resist Hot Peas 'N Butter! Virtuoso violinists Kev and Wil B make their triumphant return to Brooklyn Center to blow the roof off the Walt Whitman Theatre with their electrifying fusion of classical, jazz, hip-hop and R&B. With a long list of credits including tours with Alicia Keyes, P Diddy, and Akon, this dynamic duo smashes musical stereotypes and creates a sound that inspires young people to pursue their dreams.

Sweet Honey In The Rock: Celebrating The Holydays

Celebrate the holidays with this joyful concert of music from many faiths, performed with Sweet Honey in the Rock's stunning vocal prowess rooted in the rich textures of African American traditions. With American spirituals, Latin, Chinese, African, and Hebrew influences, this program honors the holiday spirit from Christmas to Kwanzaa. The repertoire includes traditional holiday standards such as "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and "This Little Light of Mine," as well as new holiday favorites.

Almost 30 years after they acquired international superstar status with Paul Simon's Graceland album, Ladysmith Black Mambazo continues to tour the world as South Africa's cultural emissary. Now Guthrie's poetry is given new life by the Grammy-winning Klezmatics, infusing his words with Eastern European, klezmer, Celtic, Afro Caribbean and folk flavors in a lively dialogue about the spiritual power of music to unite.
