The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce its third annual Jazz Residency program for Philadelphia Jazz Artists. The Kimmel Center is seeking individual artists or teams of collaborating artists who are inspired to push jazz into the future with the creation of new work throughout the 2015-16 season in SEI Innovation Studio.

Philadelphia Jazz Artists are invited to apply for the Kimmel Center's 2016 Jazz Residency. Throughout the residency, artists will have the time and space to create new works of jazz, fostered by the city's largest performing arts center. The Kimmel Center will host a series of works-in-progress events for artists to share their music with jazz audiences, students, young adults, and newcomers to the art form.

Application deadline is August 19, 2015 to apply online for the 2016 Jazz Residency Program. Applicants can fill out online application HERE.

Jazz Residency proposals will be evaluated according to the following artistic goals:

- New Music: This residency is the chance to write a new work of jazz. This could mean a song cycle, symphony, soundscape, or anything else. We want to help you fulfill an artistic goal to create something new. What will you create?

- Relevance: What does jazz sound like now? How does your idea relate to where jazz is headed today? How does your new work reflect what audiences today and tomorrow want to hear? How will the audience understand your point of view by listening to your work?

- Collaboration: Jazz is based in collaboration. While this project will focus on music first, we are open to new ways for artists to work together. Who are possible collaborators for your new piece? Jazz musicians may wish to apply with artists of other genres (dance, theater, visual arts). We want to help facilitate new opportunities to work together, and we may even invite you to work with other applicants.

Previous Kimmel Center Jazz Residency artists include:

- 2015: Composer-arranger-percussionist Francois Zayas collaborated with vocalist Chrissie Loftus, and choreographers/dancers Vince Johnson and Jessica Daley; Jazz vocalist Venissa Santi collaborated with guitarist Monnette Sudler-Honesty, and jazz vocalist Joanna Pascale.

- 2014: Josh Lawrence and the Fresh Cut Orchestra; saxophonist Bobby Zankel collaborated with choreographer Raphael Xavier; Pablo Batista and the Mambo Syndicate collaborated with pianist Dennis Guevara.
